The historic site of the Kunzareal is characterised by a paradox typical of industrial locations. Constant change, corresponding to the advancing industrial processes, contrasts with the permanence of the infrastructure, which here is characterised by hydroelectric power. In our case, the change concerns the reoccupation of the site of the former boiler house. In the process, the informal charm of today’s Giessplatz is to find its echo in the future open space design. On the Erlenmatt Ost site in the north of Kleinbasel a new urban quarter is developing. At its heart sits an abandoned silo, built in 1912 for the Basler Grain and Cacao Beans Dry Storage Company which is now being converted into a multi faceted venue for the wider local community.

Developed by the Habitat Foundation in collaboration with the Verein TALENT a broad variety of cultural activities intended to promote participation, openness and to vitalise the district will be available.

The corner plot of Thurgauerstrasse/Glattparkstrasse forms with the opposite building construction the gateway to Opfikon and to the Glattpark. Located on the border between Zurich and Opfikon, with direct access to the traffic artery Thurgauerstrasse by public transport, the plot will host a Renault car dealer, a hotel and residential complex for people of different ages and backgrounds.
