At its core, Lovell Burton seeks to celebrate life, relationships, stories and the richness of our shared environment.
Place
We seek to extract clear, legible ideas that capture the essence and beauty of place, respectfully. We do this with the aim to offer a heightened experience of a place to people that inhabit it. To achieve this, we consciously seek to engage all our bodily senses, to create environments that are experienced through touch, smell, sound, as well as sight. We endeavour to procure buildings that contribute positively to their environment through a social, ecological and fiscal approach.
To Make
From a broad scale down to minute details, we contemplate the one- on-one interactions with a building, where you may touch a handrail, open a drawer, perceive the framing of a view, understand the way materials join, or appreciate the quality of light and shadow.
This fascination with the tactility of material and making drives the process of Lovell Burton. We employ a range of mediums and also our own divergent interests in art, literature and research to look at each project with a fresh set of eyes. We value the importance of these broader influences to inform how we think about the world and our place within it.
To Dwell
A building should reinforce the quality of being at home in the world and provide a physical framework for each person to feel supported in their day-to-day activities.
We employ logical, passive design principles with new technology and materials to create sustainable and comfortable environments for the end user. With a view to limiting a building’s ecological footprint, we prioritise adaptability and ensure that a building is tailored to the needs of the client for many years into the future.
