Concéntrico is the Logroño International Festival of Architecture and Design, a reflection on the urban environment and the city. This year’s edition, Concéntrico 04, takes place from 27 April to 1 May 2018.
The Festival invites you to explore the city through installations, exhibitions, discussions, activities and performances, creating a connection between places, squares, streets, terraces and hidden spaces that usually go unnoticed.

During the festival RINGdeLUXE embraces the Instituto Estudios Riojanos headquarters – a gorgeous project for a glamorous neighborhood! It is not gold all that glitters – RINGdeLUXE!
Davide Marchetti . Noumena . Otravisión
“Otravisión” is an intervention that aims to celebrate the plaza by providing passers-by with the opportunity to see the space from an entirely new and unpredicted point of view.
The tower-like pavilion will hosts a virtual reality experience designed and developed by NOUMENA called “Rutas”, which will act as a “virtual periscope” tool, ready to be utilized by a single visitor at a time, encouraging people to personally reflect on the space that they are experiencing. Visitors will access the pavilion by entering a small narrow corridor facing the square, looking through the slits at the space around as they move on in. As one’s personal point of view is artificially elevated by the virtual optical tool, one will begin to develop a unique and deeply personal relationship with Logroño’s collage of old and new. Anything that was above the level of direct sight or in an otherwise obstructed field of vision now will be on display.
Beyond simply providing a new point of view, the tower pavilion recalls notions of Logroño’s history as a fortified city through its form. Openings and decorations in the facade take reference from historic geometries, translating them into a sculptural pattern that modulates the light streaming in, while also letting the visitor look out into the plaza as they are inside.
The intervention ultimately centers on giving visitors a new elevated perspective of the square and sorroundings plus a new personal experience of the history of Logroño.
Fernando Cruzado . Julia Díaz . Francisco Javier Fernández . Ane Villaverde . Entrever
Fernando Cruzado, Julia Díaz, Francisco Javier Fernández and Ane Villaverde with their work Glimpse are the winners of the competition held by Concéntrico 04 to design the intervention at Viña Lanciano from Bodegas LAN.
Strolling through the countryside of La Rioja gives us an awareness of the territory and time and again reminds of the place in which we find ourselves. The possibility of looking to the horizon across its rolling plains, meeting the sierra in the distance, gives walkers the pleasure of looking at a long and broad landscape.
Viña Lanciano, located at a bend in the River Ebro, offers us the opportunity to explore this idea of the consciousness of the territory.
Through the intervention with Concéntrico we wanted to elevate ourselves in this terrain, create a landmark that will be visible well beyond the borders of La Rioja. The call of a place, a “there’s something there” – that’s what we look at, we notice, and is part of what we call the landscape.
A web of red lines mark a vertical thickness, crowned by an ambiguous cloud which, just like the mass of trees along the river, sways with the wind.
The landscape of La Rioja is not only territory. It is also textures and rhythms. The lines marked by the vineyards surround us, creating a verdant wall on both sides of the road, or generating a series of rows that we can walk through, go at a leisurely pace perceiving what lies behind.
That is why the intervention Glimpse is also an experimental path. An action that surrounds you and calls out to be travelled, playing with what can exist, be seen or be hidden.
Bluraquitectura . A place, a bench, a tree
A place, a bench, and a tree to sit in the shade…
The place, the Parish Church of Santiago and its surrounding area.
Discover the surrounding area of Santiago through this intervention.
An intervention that is split into pieces to encourage a journey.
A journey that seeks to highlight the most significant urban spaces around the Parish Church of Santiago.
Five urban spaces have been chosen: Crossroads (c. Barriocepo and Travesía Excuevas); the Arch of Santiago; Pilgrim’s Fountain with Plaza de la Oca; Terrace at the Parque del Ebro; and the remains of the ancient wall of Logroño located in the Plazuela Alfonso de Salazar.
Five locations that contain five objects considered to be urban furniture. Objects that stem from a pentagon. A pentagon that is split into five parts, each of them looking for their location.
Each object, made of plywood, will be composed of a bench and a tree. A bench of different heights, depending on where it is located, and a tree of the same variety of the area, to provide shade for the bench.
An intervention in a single place, trees of varieties of the area, casting shadows that change throughout the day, benches of different heights, in a place with a tree to sit in its shade…
Sebastián Andrés Podesta . Lucas Seré Peltzer . La Plaza
In Plaza de San Bartolomé, a simple intervention brings together the existing space and calls for contemplation, reflection.
Removing the benches from the square, we offer two resting points at either end, two concrete blocks connected by a mirror of water, to synthesize the act of feeling and growing closer to its essence. A set of element that proposes we exist, observe, connect with the visible and with each other.
The situation suggests but does not direct – each approach will take you to different places; to the dissolution of boundaries; to canals, the past and the origin; to the preservation of historic urban heritage; to human connections. By getting our feet wet we integrate with one another, we are equal: all footprints dry on the stone floor.
