Sergison Bates architects

Founded in 2008 with the merging of Green and Templeton Colleges: Green Templeton is Oxford University’s youngest college with 600 international students studying medicine, management and applied social sciences. In 2017 a competition was launched for new graduate accommodation and study spaces.

The brief invited ideas for new buildings located next to the Radcliffe Observatory, on the site of its former kitchen gardens, currently occupied by the College’s tennis courts. This proposal includes single-occupancy en-suite rooms, an open-plan office for college staff, and communal study space for students all of which engage with an encompassing sequence of gardens. Founded in 1473, St. Catharine’s College is one of the oldest members of the University of Cambridge. Landlocked by neighbouring colleges, the core social spaces of St. Catharine’s have suffered a congested and piecemeal adaption of a 1960s brutalist redevelopment which has since fallen out of taste and become muddled in its usefulness. The site is part of the Cadix regeneration area in the former dockland district of Antwerp. A large-scale residential building of 80 apartments is part of a coherent, but varied and diverse city block of approximately 25,000m2 in total designed in collaboration with Bovenbouw and Bulk Architecten. New 20,000m2 building in the historic centre of Hamburg, a robust, energy-efficient, with adaptable floor plans and will initially accommodate a flagship department store on the lower floors and a short- and long-stay hotel on the upper floors with a communal top floor overlooking the city.
