Tourism in Bled started in 1855 when Swiss hydropath Arnold Rikli acknowledged the value and advantage of the local climate. More and more tourists followed Rikli’s patients, spending their holidays in a healthy and beautiful environment. Between both wars, Bled became a top metropolitan resort in Yugoslavia and the center of the political and diplomatic life during the summer months. As a cultural building in the 21st century, the Bauhaus-Archiv / Museum für Gestaltung should be a dynamic public space, one used for exhibiting, teaching and learning. It should provide a rewarding experience for international visitors and local residents alike. The addition of a new building allows the original 1979 building from Walter Gropius to return to its former light filled and open character, becoming the most important piece in the Bauhaus collection. The expansion is a direct response to the unique urban setting on the Landwehrkanals. The three objects on site (the new expansion, original Bauhaus building, and the Villa von der Heydt) are treated as freestanding objects in close dialogue with one another, creating a unique urbanity. On the 30th anniversary for the liberation of Nikšić, the Municipal Assembly voted to build a memorial to the fallen fighters for freedom and the socialist revolution; Dom revolucije (the Home of Revolution). The project was intended to be an architectural hybrid that would represent the socio-political structure of Nikšić. Marko Mušič, a Slovenian architect, was chosen to design the project. Construction started on the 18th of September, 1978, and after eleven years of construction works were suspended. After sitting 27 years as an uncompleted shell in the middle of the urban fabric of Nikšić, the ‘Competition for the Adaptation and Reconstruction for the Home of Revolution’ is an opportunity for the transformation of the existing building and Nikšić itself. The Cultural Center of European Space Technologies (KSEVT) will substantially supplement and emphasize the local cultural and social activities of the former Community Center in Vitanje, the town in Slovenia that was family home to Herman Potocnik Noordung, the first theoretician of space.
