Architecture office NOMO STUDIO has finished a nature-informed villa consisting of four identical rectangular volumes stepping down steep terrain on the island of Menorca. The house features locally sourced limestone, earthenware vaulted ceilings, and sandy-colored masonry and concrete, all blended into a mélange of soft airy tones. The façade keeps a solid-glazed equilibrium and uses heavy high thermal inertia materials, essential to ensure stable temperatures in mild-hot climates. Continue reading NOMO STUDIO

This Spanish vacation home is composed by simple rectangle volumes shifted in plan to create a dynamic aesthetic despite the limited space of the plot. Fluted concrete walls sliced by continuous window openings define this villa as a combination of horizontal stripes alternating solid and glass. The heaviness of the grooved concrete block used in the façade generates a gravity tension with the 360º surrounding glazed bands. The day area opens up to an elevated terrace that extends into a spill-over pool, all located on the top floor in order to guarantee the best sea views. Continuous windows ensure views in all directions and plenty of natural light. A sunken patio was introduced in the basement to bring abundant light and ventilation to all three storeys. Curved House is sculpted from a white solid cube. Its straight boundaries have been carved out with large spheres, resulting in a combination of linear, curved and double-curved geometries that define both its outer and inner spaces.

In contrast to its soft concave engravings, sharp vertical incisions organise the program in plan. Footprint restrictions lead to the creating of two hidden roof patios for stargazing and open-cinema summer nights. Continue reading Nomo Studio
