nARCHITECTS was commissioned by the City of Auburn, NY, and the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation to design the New York State Equal Rights Heritage Center and public outdoor space in historic Auburn, NY. The new 7,500sf building houses a permanent exhibition celebrating Auburn’s and New York State’s progressive history of promoting social and equal rights. Exhibition content focuses on abolition, the Underground Railroad, women’s suffrage, and LGBTQ rights, with a goal of acquainting visitors with the many attractions connected to equal rights throughout the State. nARCHITECTS’ Carmel Place (formerly known as My Micro NY), with Monadnock Development, is the winning proposal in the adAPT NYC competition sponsored by the NYC Department of Housing Preservation & Development (HPD). Former Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg and HPD Commissioner Mathew M. Wambua announced on January 22nd, 2013, that the My Micro NY development team has been chosen through a competitive Request for Proposals, which received the largest response to date for an HPD housing project. Located in Columbia Maryland, The Butterfly consists of concessions, an art gallery, and an occupiable roof deck with spaces for performances and spectators in Symphony Woods Park (to be renamed Merriweather Park).
