The renovation of the Wäschhüsli (in English wash house) was an assignment received during the construction by Haltmeier Kister Architektur of the neighboring apartment building Schneebeliweg. Together with the old farmhouse, the three buildings constitute a little hamlet of rental apartments. The preexisting edifice as well as it’s hybrid construction of wood, brick and cement brick were preserved and two duplex apartments were built in. The design of the facade was in great part given by the existing substance, as well as the intent to preserve the dialogue between the old and protected farmhouse vis-à-vis and the wash house. A strong accent was given the colors and materials, bridging the rural history and expression of the site’s buildings with the desired finesse intended for the two rental units. The wood pellet ovens placed in the open ground floors serve as central heating for the apartments. Continue reading Haltmeier Kister
