Designed for a couple and their two children, the Residence de l’Isle is a reinterpretation of Modern American Houses of the mid-20th century. This single-family home, built on the banks of a river, in the northern suburbs of Montreal, is the result of an architectural conversation with the design work of the architects of that era. Hidden behind a row of tall, mature pines, its siting allows the existing natural vegetation to become an integral part of the project while optimizing the views towards the water. Located in a flood zone along the shore of Lake Saint-Louis, the design of the Langlois-Lessard Residence is a direct response to the interrogations that where raised during the visit to the site. The reflections included how to integrate architecturally with an exceptional natural site and how to define the spatiality of the house, its volume and its fabric in response to the site itself. The Vallée du Parc Residence sits in a bucolic valley in Mauricie, a south-central region of Québec. Originally inspired by a reinterpretation of the work of American architect Frank Lloyd Wright, the ground-floor plan is shaped by a studied insertion of various terraces and its relation to the automobile. The original architecture competition required to mix in a single space, the large volume of the Wesley Temple, a variety of programmatic uses, including a public library, exhibition spaces, creative studios as well as reading and writing spaces.
