The water journeys, with all their content and heritage value, have been a pending debt in the history of the city of Madrid. Until very recently, neither their existence nor their interest was taken into consideration. The metro works in Plaza Isabel II revealed this neglect with the discovery of the hidden treasures. Different organisations in the city have initiated protection and study campaigns, but there is no centre to manage the documentation and promote its study; it is currently scattered around different administrative centres in Madrid. We propose the creation of a Museum-Study Centre with sufficient and necessary entity to improve the square and its surroundings and to include everything related to Madrid’s water journeys. El proyecto surge del lugar en el que se encuentra y la condición especial que tiene como ultima construcción del barrio. La estrategia principal nace del dualismo existente entre monte y ría, dos elementos naturales que se complementan y se asemejan de algún modo. Asimismo, como respuesta a esta dualidad se establecen dos volúmenes principales, uno en el eje del monte y otro en el eje de la ría. Se trata de un proyecto que reflexiona acerca de la educación y que propone un método diferente e innovador de interpretarla. Se propone un hibrido entre tres fases educativas: infantil, educación secundaria y un grado universitario. Estos programas conviven en un edificio multifuncional que trata de resolver las diferentes tensiones que se producen en su interior, potenciando en todo momento la relación y el contacto entre sus usuarios.
