The house, annexed with a photographer’s studio, stands amidst older houses in a former village that now is a Ghent suburb, on a residual plot that got spontaneously forested. Composed of a series of joint wooden huts, it cautiously seeks its place amidst the cherished trees and comes very near to some of them. Windows of various sizes, spread in an unsettled pattern, scan the trees and the garden like a camera. The huts have different proportions; the plinth in dark brick is high where the house is slim and tall, or lower where it is more stout. Continue reading De Smet Vermeulen
