The project for a little private house in the garden of the eighteen century villa Belpoggio-Baciocchi, doesn’t explicitly states its program. The new building appears sculptural and however changeable. The east elevation is massive to not interfere with the daily uses of the villa and its monumental façade. The living spaces face the south-west, with large windows overlooking the woods and the hills. A new mineral landscape overlaps with the natural surroundings. The architecture “mocks” the hill with a tilted surface, repeatedly folded to define a continuous and surprisingly domestic space. In the heart of the old town of Biévres, the elderly hall stands peacefully in the site without trying to hide itself. On ground level the polyvalent hall is composed of two modular spaces, of 50 et 35 m², that can be combined together. The elderly hall widely opens on the garden with various windows so that the eastern light and the view of the valley came inside. Here we can find some open spaces of sociability and others with a more intimate atmosphere. Steven Holl
The Glassell School of Art at the Museum of Fine Arts in Houston, will replace the school’s existing 35-year old building, and add approximately 80,000 square feet of state-of-the-art studios and active social spaces. The building brackets the Brown Foundation Plaza and extends the campus landscape onto its roof, culminating in a trellised roof garden that provides views of the entire campus.
