Vineyard huts or even winegrowers’ cottages have little practical significance today. As the winegrowers’ equipment could not be transported by tractor in the past, it had to be stored on site. They also served as protection against bad weather.
For the architectural project “16 Stations” in Kernen im Remstal near Stuttgart, the Berlin architecture firm Kuehn Malvezzi designed the winegrowers’ cottage and the picking gardens in collaboration with the landscape architects Atelier le balto, also from Berlin. It is a sheltered place for hikers, day trippers and architecture enthusiasts, inviting them to linger with its magnificent view over the vines. Berries can also be picked in the picking gardens below at the right time of year.
