Barozzi Veiga

This study proposal from 2017 for the rehabilitation and extension of a house in the Hollywood Hills makes use of an existing balloon-frame layout while restoring the building’s relation to the landscape. Set on a slope and surrounded by greenery, the original timber structure develops vertically on two floors, each one featuring good solar exposure and panoramic views of the city below. A new perimeter line, defined by a series of slender columns, is added to this existing structure to accommodate large windows and new terraces overlooking the landscape.

The main intervention in the interior is the insertion of a new central staircase, a top-lit, independent element that connects all levels of the house and creates a flexible and continuous open space adapted to the owner’s youthful lifestyle.

Competition entry for the Zhoushan Grand Theatre, China, 2022

Placed on the water, a pier creates a promenade moving above the sea, with bars, restaurants, shops of all kinds and markets which diversify the walks. It invents a calm destination of fascination and observations of the city’s skylines, stars and clouds.
The opera hall sits in the middle like a precious jewel protected by a starry glass vault… This presence protects a majestic and popular square.
A triple terrace creates an immense hydroponic garden which hosts aquatic carpets of water lilies and lotuses on the decks of the opera house, of the congress and exhibition halls, and finally on the decks of the hotel.
This to the tip of the extreme promenade of the restaurant-belvedere which hovers 45m above the sea.
