Basel is growing upwards. In the middle of Kleinbasel, on the axis between the core city and Badischer Bahnhof, the Rosentalturm is the third high-rise in the ensemble together with the Messe and Claraturm towers and anchors the location of the trade fair on the city level. At the level of the city’s inhabitants, the skyscrapers flank the spatial sequence Clarastrasse, Stadt-Lounge, Messeplatz and Rosentalanlage. The Rosentalturm’s position and profile as a slender body create optimal lighting for the exhibition square and, with its permeable base, an expansive, diagonal reference to the Rosentalanlage. In this way, the successful competition entry from 2022 mediates between the city and the neighbourhood.

The ground floor, which is open and accessible from all sides, creates an active and effective building block for neighbourhood revitalisation. The base with its commercial and residential areas encloses the street space on all sides, and thanks to the multi-storey openings, the Rosental complex diffuses into the central cloister with its high amenity value. From the roof terrace on the fifth floor grows the high- rise building and a garden island above the sea of roofs. Through its optimal east- west orientation, the wedge-shaped tower allows a high degree of flexibility in the design of the flat floor plans. The staggering of the south façade leads to private and public outdoor spaces. The latter are accessed by a rue-intérieur and connect the users of the entire building. The result is a versatile and diverse house in an equally versatile city.
