Following a significant demographic growth in the city of Meyrin, in particular, in the Vergers district, an evolution of the existing sports installation and infrastructure was required.
Our team successfully lead the design and construction of new sports installations. The design was influenced and constricted by the existence of two legacy sports buildings from the 1980’s.
Two new pavilions in the form of two false twin-buildings of 2 floors each, complement the existing empty space. The south-facing building comprises of five change-rooms and facilities for the athletes as well as a complete gym. The building opens up towards the green vegetation of the Parc des Arbères, welcoming natural light and open landscape. The north-facing building is used for the locker rooms of the athletes, coaches and referees as well as technical installations and laundry facilities.
The circulation spaces are designed as meeting places, largely open to the outside, taking advantage of natural light and near and distant views of the surrounding neighbourhood. The locker rooms also benefit from generous windows allowing open-sky views, while a protection on the windows guarantee the privacy on premises.
The structure of the buildings is made up of interior walls and peripheral concrete posts. Like the existing buildings, an eave allows for a protected wandering around the new pavilions. The facade consists of a wooden frame covered with larch cladding passing in front of certain windows. All of the interior carpentry is made of wood which is surrounded by concrete, highlighting the contrast between raw material and finished material.

L’importante évolution démographique de la Ville de Meyrin, notamment du quartier des Vergers, implique une nécessaire évolution de l’offre en terme d’installations sportives. Implantés en quinconce, deux bâtiments de vestiaires réalisés dans les années 80 occupent d’ores et déjà le site. Ces deux faux-jumeaux dictent les règles d’implantation de l’extension qui doit répondre aux nouveaux besoins du centre sportif. Deux nouveaux pavillons, deux faux-jumeaux de deux niveaux chacun, complètent alors le dispositif existant et prennent place dans les vides laissés à disposition pendant plusieurs décennies. Le bâtiment sud accueille cinq vestiaires dédiés aux joueurs, des locaux annexes ainsi qu’une salle de musculation. Cette dernière est largement ouverte sur son environnement et intériorise la végétation du Parc des Arbères. Le bâtiment nord regroupent quant à lui les vestiaires joueurs, entraineurs et arbitres ainsi que des locaux de service qu’une buanderie vient compléter. Les espaces de circulations sont conçus comme des lieux de rencontres, largement ouverts sur l’extérieur, profitant de la lumière naturelle et des vues proches et lointaines sur le nouveau quartier. Les vestiaires bénéficient également de généreuses fenêtres laissant filer le regard sur le ciel. Un film permet de garantir la privacité de ces locaux. La structure des bâtiments est constituée de voiles intérieurs et de poteaux périphériques en béton. A l’instar des bâtiments existants, un avant-toit permet une déambulation protégée autour des nouveaux pavillons. Les façades sont constituées d’une charpente en bois revêtue d’un bardage en mélèze passant devant certains vitrages. L’ensemble des menuiseries intérieures est en bois et se confronte au béton mettant en lumière la rencontre entre matériau brut et matériau fini. Un petit hameau pour la pratique du sport, avec sa centralité et ses ruelles, un petit village…
