The brief envisaged the construction of two buildings on a site on the edge of the village of Therwil – a single family house to replace the client’s summer cottage, and a new rental apartment building.
The cottage is organised to make the most of the countryside view. The living room with an open kitchen, a winter garden and a terrace are all located on the upper floor under the pitched roof, in traditional timber construction. The bedrooms are located below, on the garden floor. The gesture of the large pitched roof has its roots in traditional rural architecture, while the specific articulation of it here is clearly modern, without any resort to abstraction or formal reduction.
