“The Pipes” is now open at MASS MoCA in Massachusetts. Following “An Occupation of Loss” (2016), a monumental sculptural installation at Park Avenue Armory devised in collaboration with Taryn Simon, the concrete structures have been transported to a new context.
The eleven inverted wells, designed by Taryn Simon and Shohei Shigematsu, will be populated by the sounds, collective call-and-response, and movements of a living public. It invites the public to an immersive experience and a sacred space for reflection, impromptu performance, and stargazing.
