Saxony is the cradle of industrialization in Germany. With the decision to present the leading exhibition on the 500-year history of industrial culture as part of the 4th Saxon State Exhibition in the Audi Halle in Zwickau, a concept was sought that not only responds to the technical requirements of the high flow of visitors, but also to questions of sustainability in of our time. The implemented design concept goes further: it repetitively uses existing industrial goods and combines them to form an entrance building with a ramp system in order to receive visitors to the exhibition and guide them into the former assembly and production hall.
According to the implementation of all new construction volumes from sea containers, the development of the equipment elements such as counters and lockers from tool boxes follows, Seating made from car tires consistently follows the principle of reuse. Topics such as industrial heritage, product exchange and recycling processes can thus be read as aesthetics that determine the shape. The existing building, built by Th. Quaysin for Audi-Union AG 1938-39, was built at the time with the greatest possible savings and the goal of a construction that was as low in iron as possible. Sachsen ist die Wiege der Industrialisierung in Deutschland. Mit dem Entschluss die Leitausstellung zur 500-jährigen Industriekulturgeschichte im Rahmen der 4.Sächsischen Landesausstellung in der Audi Halle in Zwickau zu präsentieren, wurde ein Konzept gesucht, welches nicht nur auf die technischen Anforderungen der hohen Besucherströme eingeht, sondern auch zu Fragen der Nachhaltigkeit in unserer Zeit Stellung bezieht. Das umgesetzte Gestaltkonzept geht darüber hinaus.Es nutzt repetitiv vorhandene Industriewaren und kombiniert sie zu einem Eingangsgebäude mit Rampenanlage, um die Besucher zur Ausstellung zu empfangen und sie in die ehemaligen Montage- und Produktionshalle zu führen. Gemäß der Umsetzung aller neuen Bauvolumen aus Seecontainern folgt auch die Entwicklung der Ausstattungselemente wie Tresen und Schließfächer aus Werkzeugkisten, Sitzmöbel aus Autoreifen konsequent dem Leitbild der Nachnutzung. Themen wie industrielles Erbe, Produktaustausch und Recyclingprozesse werden somit als gestaltbestimmende Ästhetik lesbar. Der von Th. Quaysin für die Audi-Union AG 1938-39 erbaute Bestandsbau, wurde damals unter der Maßgabe der größtmöglichen Einsparung und dem Ziel einer möglichst eisenarmen Bau- weise errichtet. Alle heutigen Eingriffe und Sanierungsarbeiten werden nach der gleichen Maßgabe konzipiert und unterstreichen den ursprünglichen Charakter des Gebäudes.
