Almudena and Jordi asked us to design a ground floor house, for them and their two children to live in. They have many hobbies, such as music, arts and crafts and cooking. They always look forward to spending time together as a family.
The objective of the property was clear: for all the members of this small family be able to share as much time together as possible, irrespective of where they are in the house.
THE COMMISSION
At the same time, we wanted to maintain a certain degree of privacy with regards to the street and to their neighbours and open the house up to a beautiful vineyard.
The result is a house with a walled façade, featuring irregular shapes which open up to the landscape of the vineyards.
PASSAGEWAYS
The structure of the house was based on several continuous passageways with one central element: a glazed inner courtyard. This shape allows us to create a home with circularity and to visually connect the different parts of the house.
In this way it wouldn’t matter if you were preparing dinner while the children were doing their homework: you always have the feeling that the rest of the family are with you.
Once it was finished, we were able to make sure that the courtyard allowed the day rooms to have one common focus, converting the various rooms of the house into one large living room to be enjoyed as a family.
VOLUME
Aside from the passageways, each room of the house was built independently, piece by piece, working with sloped roofs which give each room of the house a different expression. The roofs are made of concrete and their entire history is visible: the concrete formwork and the imperfections of the building process.
MATERIALS AND CONSTRUCTION
We wanted to give the house sensibility, working with exposed materials. Ceramic, concrete and wood.
The construction has followed a traditional method. Once the structure was completed, the walls and ceilings were insulated with wood, to ensure it was insulated without a thermal bridge, in a natural and breathable way.

EL ENCARGO Almudena y Jordi nos pidieron una casa en planta baja para vivir con sus dos hijos. Tiene muchas aficiones, como la música, las artes plásticas o la cocina, y muchas ganas de compartir su tiempo en familia. El objetivo de la vivienda estaba claro: conseguir que todos los miembros de la pequeña familia pudieran compartir el máximo tiempo posible juntos, independientemente de la zona de la casa en la que estuvieran. Al mismo tiempo queríamos mantener cierta privacidad con respecto a la calle y abrir la vivienda a sus vecinos: un precioso viñedo. El resultado ha sido una casa muraria en fachada, pero con formas irregulares que se abren al paisaje de viñedos. RECORRIDOS La articulación de la vivienda se plantea en base a distintos recorridos contínuos con un eje central: un patio interior acristalado. Esta forma nos permite crear una vivienda con circularidad y conectar las diferentes partes de la casa visualmente. De este modo, no importa si estás haciendo la cena mientras los peques están haciendo los deberes: siempre tienes la sensación de estar acompañado por el resto de la familia. Una vez terminada, hemos podido comprobar que el patio permite que todas las salas de día mantengan un punto en común y esto convierte las diferentes estancias de la casa en una gran sala para compartir en familia. VOLUMEN Más allá de los recorridos, cada sala de la casa se ha construido de forma independiente, pieza por pieza, trabajando cubiertas inclinadas que le dan una expresividad diferente a casa estancia de la vivienda. Las cubiertas son de hormigón y se han mantenido con toda su historia vista: línea de encofrado e imperfecciones del proceso de trabajo. MATERIALES Y CONSTRUCCIÓN Hemos querido dotar de humanidad a la vivienda trabajando con materiales vistos. Cerámica, hormigón y madera. La construcción ha seguido el método tradicional. Y una vez conseguida la estructura, se revistieron paredes y techos con aislamiento de madera para garantizar el mismo sin ningún puente térmico y de un modo natural y transpirable.
