The ‘bar-shaped’ configuration gives rise to two adjacent public spaces. To the east, a level square of a more formal and urban nature, shaped by the layout of the surrounding architecture, proposes an alternative destination to the Jardim da Parada and also provides a green ‘buffer’ of protection to the buildings. To the west, a more organic and topographical garden links Campo de Ourique to Rua Maria Pia.
Connecting to the western garden and down from Campo de Ourique, we propose two service floors, the form of which links to the memory of the project location. The two service levels embedded in the hillside are intended to give continuity to the decommissioned limestone quarry, south of the limit of the intervention plot, and establish an intermediate leisure level. The combination of the expansion of the urban environment of Campo de Ourique with the extension representing the quarry has given rise to the concept of the Campo de Ourique Platform: a platform that expands and concludes the adjacent urban environment, establishing topographical and visual relationships with the surroundings.
