The programme focuses on its relationship with the remarkable Atalaia Magra in environment as well as the unique spatial characteristics of the medieval watchtower itself, attempting to create a special semi-outdoor space to get in dialogue with it. The central core courtyard is shaped by three main functions of the cultural center. Each function has its own spatial characteristics and forms a set of spatial sequences together with the watchtower.
Visitors walk into the courtyard from natural environment and through the spiral staircase entry into the exhibition hall. After visiting the open-air platform, they walk up the spiral staircase again in Atalaia Magra to the top of it. The tourist center is harmonised with the environment in a minimal way. Two blind windows in the six opening indicate the damaged part of the watchtower.
We hope that through the participation of the cultural center in the visiting process, visitors can have a deeper understanding of the historical function and spatial characteristics of the Atalaia Magra. While we intend to find a possible solution from the spatial structure to this type.
