Water as an essential good for human life is also the structurer of the urban fabric. It creates limits when it flows in a river or stream and generates urban space whenever it springs from a fountain or spout. Whether in natural form or human construction water vigorously demarcates the morphology of the city.
In place of the Rio Seco, where once streamed down a hill there were several points of water, exceptional public spaces of human concentration.
The project seeks to restore the water line and renaturalize the surrounding area through a Natural Park thus closing the corridor started by Gonçalo Ribeiro Telles, turning it into a green ring. This idea of continuity persists not only in the green spaces, but also in the water pipeline, which begins its path from Mina of Sacôta to the Chafariz of Junqueira.
‘The wall of water’ is born rooted in the memory of the place, as if it were a toponym. Past boundaries are reinstated to remark the landscape and dialogue between two realities. The restructuring and reorganization of this extension does not see in the limitation of the wall a division, but an opportunity to dedicate the resulting emptiness to spaces linked to water.
