The project is located on the edge of the town of Ås, along a suburban road with regular traffic. The surroundings are characterized by scattered small single-family homes without a defined organization, along with undeveloped areas and isolated shops on the other side of the road. This suburban layout, lacking urban furniture and organized vegetation, presents a loosely defined structure and low density. The recent regulations aim to improve this situation by promoting a reconfiguration of the environment towards greater density and urban cohesion. Continue reading R21 Arkitekter

R21 Architects was asked to create an intimate and robust family home in the district of Nordstrand in Oslo. Large pine trees, a steep terrain to the west and a spectacular view extending beyond the tree crowns to the Oslo fjord were the main premises of the project’s placement and direction. The cabin is designed as a pavilion among the other buildings of the Sand Farm. The building has the same footprint as an earlier annex building and reinterprets the building to satisfy modern demands. Some of the ideas behind the nearby “Saga” project is given a new interpretation here under different circumstances, this time the loadbearing wooden (oak) columns are on the outside of the glass wall. The construction stands on a concrete basement and consists of four roof trusses supported by columns, stiffened by a rigid core containing bathroom and kitchen. On top of the core is a mezzanine. All open in summertime, the building appears as a simple pavilion, an outdoor kitchen under a large roof. Wooden shutters make a flexible outer shell to close the building in various degrees to the surroundings. Continue reading R21 Arkitekter
