The design of this beach café in the Lake District took its initial inspiration from a cluster of rocks found nearby. These ‘rocks’ interconnect in a non-uniform way to create an organic plan reminiscent of the farm buildings in the area. The Bakehouse is situated in a surprisingly peaceful hidden enclave near to Peckham High Street and the surrounding hubbub. The project required adding a new roof and side extension to the former Victorian brick bakery which occupies a rear interstitial site.
