Apartment with two Columns . Porto

The apartment is located in the ‘Red Towers’ (Torres Vermelhas), a project built by João Serôdio in Porto, in 1972. The intention of the refurbishment was to open up and combine kitchen and living room to form a continuous and bright space with double aspect east and west orientation, while keeping the spirit and principles of the original building intact. The Nursery & Community Centre marks the entrance to the new West Green Place development. The building opens up and activates a new public square, shared between the vistors, residents and the wider community. The simple and elegant form sets the stage for playful interventions. Conceived as a building with four equal façades, it’s understated presence is complemented by a set of generous canopies providing a range of different outdoor spaces for the nursery. Centuries ago this park and its villa formed part of a hamlet called Klingelbeek. In the early part of the twentieth century the villa was turned into a monastry.
