On an existing house from the 80`s, the programmatic needs of its new inhabitants imply its preparation for their new life.
The general volumetry is modified with two significant and symmetrical operations. From a geometry that replicates the existing slopes, a translucent structure that veils the front of the house and a light roof that makes habitable the back terrace habitable. The “Chorizo house” is a traditional typology that emerged in Buenos Aires at the end of the 19th century. This typology is characterised by a succession of consecutive rooms along a longitudinal courtyard.
During the 30´ 40´ building on the totality of the plot of land was allowed. Due to this along with real estate speculation, the lots became overdensified, with small constructions confined to the centre of the block, exposed to poor lighting and ventilation conditions. The house is organised in four volumes that structure the space, conditioned by their specificity.

It is located according to the open geometry of the plot, respecting the required setbacks, and optimising solar access, views, and programmatic links.

The free space in between the volumes holds a direct connection with the exterior landscape and features without hierarchy the social program of the dwelling.
A white painted double brick wall solves the enclosure in the entire perimeter, emphasizing the exterior character in the interior. Continue reading Estudio – BHY
