Mainly, the proposal “Caminante, no hay camino, se hace camino al andar” aims for the regeneration of Alcalá de la Selva.
Therefore, an open strategy for the management of the resources is suggested, not through a fixed path, but instead a series of guidelines are proposed which affect all sorts of fields within the current system (socio-cultural development, resources management, landscape…). Thanks to the proposal’s flexibility the guidelines are changed throughout time taking a new course of action rather than the initial scheme.
Thus, the main approach is based on the stimulation of the traditional productive systems related to the landscape, implemented through “new knowledge”. Not only achieving an economical growth but also regenerating the “out of season” period and bringing about new prospects.
This formula, exportable to any town in the mountains with farming background, is fulfilled by some external managers, the cooperatives. These agents are related to each and a very local productive system, promoting and coordinating short cycles and low environmental impact processes (crop rotation, the transformation, transport and sale of products in a local level…), henceforth allowing a long term, sustainable and respectful working of Alcalá riverside.
One by one, every cooperative is linked by a particular product and area, specifically shaping a working landscape. Hypothetically, as time goes by, the cooperatives will manage a number of joint transactions, enabling not only the economical improvement but social interaction as well. In the end, temporal and lasting employment is created, along with a series of hosted events, renown in outside circles, meant for rearranging the seasonal regime.
All proposed measures are associated with the A228 road and have a low impact productive-landscape intention; these actions differ by their visual response to the path lines that pierce through them. For the pedestrians pathways a fragmented and complex landscape is proposed, of a more human scale, while the road gets a more powerful landscape order.
It is important to remark the fact that every factor involved in the project, varies substantially throughout time, as in the seasonal people influx, the impact of seasons on agricultural production, etc. Because of this, we consider that this proposal should be considered as a manual or guideline for management associated to time more than to the territory itself, and therefore it can be applied to different places with similar features.
