Recent photos show how the Foster + Partners-designed former City Hall building deconstruction is underway, with the removal of the external glass panels gathering pace, as part of a major overhaul nearly four years after the Greater London Authority (GLA) moved out in late 2021.
The work, approved by Southwark Council, is turning the vacant structure into a mixed-use development of offices, shops, and restaurants.
The GLA moved from the building in a cost-saving measure, relocating to The Crystal in the Royal Docks, Newham, which it owns. The renovation is being carried out by the building’s owner, Kuwaiti-owned St Martins Property Investments.
