Bohinjska Bistrica Kindergarten is designed as a response to a specific educational program surrounded by an imposing landscape. The building is conceived as a continuous playground, indoor and outdoor, organized through a rhythm of technical cores.
FRAGMENTATION. The new building continues the edge of the settlement of Bohinjske Bistrice, taking into account the geometry of the context and the emphasized horizontality through the disposition of large sloped roofs. The fragmentation of the program in three volumes establishes a common inner courtyard as an entrance and at the same time delimits the outer spaces.
SENSE OF PLACE The house descends in the direction of nature. It comes closest to it at the end of the eastern volume, which opens completely into the landscape. The three volumes establish a dialogue between the scale of the mountains surrounding the place and the need of a refuge and safeness for the kids.
GANK = CIRCULATION The main element of the organization of the interior space is the ‘gank’, a loop of internal and external communications that connects the nursery, allows flexible use and circulation.
