In Uslé’s pictures there is no figuration: the dynamic, flowing painterly structure is the register of an inner gaze that delves into what normally goes unseen in these times of surplus images. Into something that comes before. As he wrote in one of his aphorisms: “Is there a more redolent place than that which appears in front of us at the moment just before we discover an image?”
