In the heart of the old town of Barcelona, a XIXth century building originally hosted a 3-bedroom apartment within a 36m2 surface.
The XXIst century version of the apartment was aimed for a single person or a couple.
The original distribution was cleared off to connect the two opposite facades (street-courtyard).
The bearing elements were maintained, restored and made visible.
The new bathroom was placed in the center of the space.
It was conceived as a piece of furniture, creating a physical separation between the living room and the bedroom – facing respectively the street and the courtyard – while allowing the light, the air and the view to filter through.
A second piece of furniture was placed against one of the bearing walls to host the kitchen and the wardrobes, alternatively facing the living room and the bedroom.
