The commission is for a small office building located on the commercial street of the Jardín Carrasco neighborhood in Montevideo. Building the entire volume permitted by regulations, the construction is defined as a simple prism with a ground floor plus two repetitive levels with a setback crowning template.
The interiors, a sequence of open-plan floors, are spatially and structurally determined by the vertical circulation and service cores, and a single central pillar with a capital.
The project focuses specifically on the expression of support through a single central concrete pillar with an inverted umbrella-shaped capital. This pillar assumes the load of the building through its expression. The structure is complemented by slender pillars around the perimeter that stiffen the slab faces, whose treatment with a double wooden stud tends to dilute their structural presence.·

El encargo consiste en un pequeño edificio de oficinas emplazado sobre la calle comercial del barrio jardín Carrasco, ubicado en la ciudad de Montevideo. Edificando la totalidad del volumen que permite la normativa, el edificio se define como un prisma simple de planta baja más dos niveles repetitivos con un gálibo de coronamiento retranqueado. Los interiores, una secuencia de plantas libres, se configuran espacial y estructuralmente pautados por los núcleos de circulaciones verticales, de servicio y un único pilar central con capitel. El proyecto trabaja particularmente la expresión del sostén a partir de un único pilar central de hormigón con un capitel tipo sombrilla invertido. Dicho pilar asume la carga del edificio desde su expresión. La estructura se complementa con delgados pilares en el perímetro que rigidizan los frentes de las losas, cuyo tratamiento con un doble montante de madera tiende a diluir su presencia estructural.
