The small Austrian municipality of Mattsee is located about 25 kilometers north of Salzburg on a wide promontory between Lake Obertrum and Lake Mattsee. The new kindergarten on the southern edge of the town is surrounded by green spaces, single-family homes, and three schools.
The simple, once-angled longitudinal building with a flat roof and projecting play terraces extends from the northeast to the southwest. It is accessed via the existing municipal road “Stockwiese”. A forecourt on the east side offers parking for strollers and bicycles. The entrance area is a striking building recess and weather-protected, next to which is a direct access to the garden. A bright foyer welcomes children and visitors. Visual connections create orientation and guide the children to their group rooms. In total, there are six group rooms, four quiet and movement rooms, as well as creative, language support, dining, and office spaces.·
