McLaren.Excell has transformed a 1970s Wimbledon house into a striking 4,000 sq ft contemporary home. Positioned on a sought-after street, the new build features a bold, fortress-like brick facade with a design tailored to the client’s needs for both family living and entertaining.

The house blends brick, concrete, and timber in its construction, with Danish Petersen bricks lending a sculptural quality to its three interlocking volumes of varying heights. The exterior’s dark bricks contrast with lighter interior tones, emphasizing texture and light interplay. Large, deeply set windows frame external views while maintaining a sense of solidity.

Designed to follow the sun’s path, the home integrates natural light as a key design element. Deep window reveals and concrete beams diffuse light throughout, preventing glare and enhancing the tactile qualities of the materials.

Internally, the layout echoes a four-square design, with communal and private spaces organized around a central axis. The ground floor includes formal and informal living spaces, while the first floor houses four ensuite bedrooms with pastel-toned bathrooms contrasting the concrete and brick finishes. The top floor primary suite features timber cladding, private terraces, an outdoor fireplace, and a luxurious en-suite with Viola honed marble.
