Tree House is a hard working family home extending a dilapidated weatherboard worker’s cottage within a constrained site.

The lower ground living areas are sunk into the ground to protect the levels of the existing garden and 20m tall Lemon Scented Gum which remains guardian of the site. The existing front bedrooms of the cottage were retained with two additional bedrooms and bathrooms hovered above the living spaces to the rear. A slated walkway connects the rooms to the retained cottage hallway with openings sending daylight to the kitchen below. Crafted with readily accessible materials of LVLs and pine, clear sealed and painted. Each element is expressed, knitted together to form the walkways and balustrade.

Spotted Gum joinery celebrates an Australian materiality, bringing warmth to the interior.
