Located at the corner of Solli Plass, the infill project in Bygdøy Allé 1 in Oslo is part of a late 19th-century urban block inspired by Parisian palatial façades. While the historic street front remains intact, the rear towards Frognerveien had long been an unresolved urban space.

This project introduces a new two-story structure and transformation of the existing spaces which re-establishes a connection between Bygdøy Allé and Frognerveien. The building was designed with a curved brick façade and window composition that subtly echoes the elegance of the original architecture.

The curved glass element softens the transition between the existing and new structure and gives space for a needed passage, recalling the fluidity of historic façades while enhancing the interplay of light and transparency. The Flemish bond brickwork, recessed joints, and oak-framed windows ensure material continuity with the surrounding buildings. Large openings on the ground floor further dissolve boundaries between interior and exterior, transforming the previously enclosed courtyard into an active urban space.

Designed by Skapa architects, the project reinterprets historical elements through contemporary craftsmanship, offering a layered architectural response that reinforces the evolving character of Oslo’s built environment.
