Released new images of Siyadi Pearl Museum and mosque in Bahrain by Studio Anne Holtrop.
The Siyadis were among the most significant pearl trading dynasties in Bahrain between the 19th and 20th centuries. The wealth that the family gained from pearl fishing is reflected in their city house, which consists of several parts: the oldest is the original family residence, with ground floor rooms built around 1850, making it one of the earliest coral stone constructions. In 1921, a second residential section was added, featuring large guest rooms and richly decorated reception areas where the family hosted business partners from Europe or India. A third part of the building is a small mosque with a minaret in the courtyard, which the Siyadis donated to the community.
During the planning of the “Path of the Pearl Fishers” by Bahrain’s cultural authority, this exceptionally large and well-preserved city house was also made available for public use. The “Pearl Museum” has been established in the historic rooms, showcasing the oldest drilled pearls found in Bahrain, as well as pearl jewelry from the National Museum and private collections.·
