The Cité Radieuse institution is specialized in the care of persons with physical disabilities since 1967. The project consists of two additional housing units, superimposed on a ground floor where the existing restaurant is enlarged and transformed, extending the base of collective activities. In order to respond to a singular way of living, the research focused on the interior spatiality of the living floors plan, experimenting with a specific typology, to guarantee the fluidity of movement in wheelchairs and to offer a gradual progression between private and shared spaces.

The layout adopts the shape of a «8» avoiding dead ends and right angles not suitable for wheelchair circulation. This creates a continuous perception of the space, where each point of the route puts the living rooms into perspective. The figure of «8» allows residents to reach their rooms from the hall, in complete privacy, without having to cross the common areas. These are connected diagonally with their own qualities of light and view. The organic geometry finally generates a crown of five-sided rooms, making it easy for residents and staff to carry out daily tasks.
