New Perelada Winery . Girona

RCR Architects . + Artec Studio

Released new images of the New Perelada Winery in Girona, Spain featuring lighting design as Artec Studio has been recognized with an “Award of Excellence” at the 2023 International Lighting Design Awards by the International Association of Lighting Designers (IALD). The awards were celebrated globally both online and at viewing parties in cities worldwide.

Artec Studio is the only Spanish studio to receive recognition in this year’s IALD Awards; the project was selected as an example of excellence in lighting design and for its contribution to the professional design community, amidst nearly 300 participating proposals.

The creative concept by Artec Studio of Grupo Perelada’s new winery is based on working with natural and artificial light with two intentions: one that reveals the architecture; and one that connects us with the essence of the place and transmits the storytelling of the wine. The new winery has been designed harmoniously with the surroundings and the lighting meets the same objective.

Natural light entries are planned as flared slots to achieve maximum light entry. Artificial light is integrated with natural light, and linear lighting is integrated into the floor, emphasizing the wine’s relationship with the land.

One of the challenges of the project was to bring natural light into an underground construction. To achieve this, the natural light of the location was studied and adjustments to the architecture of the skylights were proposed.

The project sought excellence in the use of natural light in an underground space, to achieve high comfort and an experience without differences between natural and artificial light.

Artec Studio worked to maintain the serene and sensitive approach of the architectural project, designed by RCR Architects, and it is now a true legacy in the fields of wine, landscape, and culture in the Empordà region.
