My site is in the international business district, North of Brussels’ historic centre. The whole area is undergoing an urban redevelopment with the intention of transforming the district into an inclusive and attractive part of the city. To strengthen the social cohesion and the image of the area, my idea is to densify it with a new housing typology.
A vertical neighbourhood where the apartments, spread over two levels, intersect each other. The living area is completely expose towards the city while the sleeping area is characterised by low and long openings that create privacy and intimacy. Each apartment hides a central space: a study, an introverted studio, detached from the apartment and from the context. The studio is in the adjacent tower as a volume defining another flat. A space around which the everyday life of another household revolves, defining a new way of living: the Vertical Neighbourhood.
