Private villa . London
This modestly scaled home was designed to occupy the narrow site of a former coach house in Hampstead, north London. Sitting between two large Arts and Crafts style villas, the resulting form and materiality sought to confidently assert an architectural language that was both innovative and yet richly informed by the special culture of the local architecture. The plan of the house accommodates the specific requirements of the owners in their desire to build a long term small family home. The enclosing envelope of the house is moulded by the immediate scale, street scene, outlook and sight-lines to the site and is characterised by rusticated brick courses inset with moments of smooth, refined cast terrazzo.
