This neo-classical building from 1823 is part of the former roadhouse of Chalet-à-Gobet, a witness to the creation of the canton of Vaud and the development of its communication routes.

After the fire of 2007, the collapsed building remained abandoned for more than ten years. Thanks to the survey carried out during an earlier project, PONT12 was able to reconstruct the old structure: the Commune of Lausanne commissioned a scrupulous restoration of this protected building. The challenge was to invest without knowing the final destination, with the aim of arousing interest in this large volume located in a rapidly developing sector.
Traditional wood techniques were used, following a local process where the city’s wood was given to the sawyer and then installed by the carpenter with a Swiss Wood Origin (COBS) certification.

By refraining from adding any technical installations or external fittings, the building retains the greatest possible openness for new uses.

The city of Lausanne has rehabilitated its heritage, making it available to future generations, while at the same time demonstrating the use of its forest resources and the know-how of craftsmen and designers in the field of wood.
