Ridgewood Townhouse at Queens . New York

A dilapidated, 2-family townhouse in the historic part of Ridgewood/Queens required a complete gut renovation. Apart from few original features worth to keep, the project’s idea is about ‘subtraction’. Removing layers of materials accumulated over the years, the building’s shell emerges, black tar covered brick walls. A new, floating ceiling integrates fragments of original tin ceiling leftovers into its continuous plane. Shadow gabs in the ceiling harbor sliding tracks for curtains and doors to define different zones within the open plan.
