History is the most inseparable value of Saint Malo.
Territory of defense, there has always been a tense frontier line between separate domains: On the one hand the human, the disputes, the walls, the battlements, the line that separates but also protects; on the other hand the natural. Separation of elements, the land that arrives there gives way to the sea.
It is a protection zone, as much as a risk of unknown.
Saint Malo has always been a territory of dispute. Of cultural, ideological, political, and military quarrels. It is a land of conquest and defense, which also shaped a unique image of the territory.
It covers up, it reserves itself, it hides to who sees from outside. Inside it gathers, houses, welcomes warmly.
It is in the dual coexistence of these components of your personality that the new museum is designed.
A landmark, a peremptory icon seen from the outside. Mineral, vertical, angular, closed and enclosed wall. At its top is the domain of the landscape: an infinite path that reaches the horizon.
Inside: a protected and tender universe. A living heart. The presence of the wood that welcomes, that evolves, that is renewed, that offers sounds when walking.
The drawing evokes Saint Malo’s identity, renews it, re-enacts it. As a language that can only be spoken there, a fortification of hot center is drawn.
It builds itself into the future, a legacy as unique as that inherited.

Território de defesa, sempre se constituiu linha de fronteira tensa entre domínios separados: Por um lado o humano, das disputas, das muralhas, das ameias, da linha que separa mas também protege; por outro lado o natural. Separação de elementos, a terra que até lá chega para aí dar lugar ao mar. É zona de protecção, tanto quanto de risco de desconhecido. Saint malo sempre foi um território de disputa. De querelas culturais, ideológicas, politicas, e militares. É um terreno de conquista e defesa, que moldou também uma imagem única do território. Encobre-se, reserva-se, esconde-se para quem vê de fora. Por dentro recolhe, abriga, acolhe calorosamente. É na dual coexistência destas componentes da sua personalidade que se desenha o novo museu. Um marco, um ícone peremptório visto do exterior. Muralha mineral, vertical, angulosa, cerrada e encerrada. No seu topo o domínio da paisagem: um caminho de ronda infinito que alcança o horizonte. No seu interior: um universo protegido terno e generoso. Um coração vivo. A presença da madeira que acolhe, que evolui, que se renova, que oferece sons ao andar. O desenho evoca a identidade de Saint malo, renova-a, repropõe-na. Como uma língua que só ali se pode falar, desenha-se uma fortificação de centro quente. Constrói-se para o futuro, um legado tão singular como o que se herdou.
