New building on the site the charity currently occupies in Bethnal Green.
St. Margaret’s House are looking to create a mixed-use development to the rear of the site, with a new building to house a community hub and allow a range of other possibilities: a performance space, studios for artists, social entrepreneurs and start-ups, offices for groups from the third sector.
The strategy we proposed reorganises the site by creating a large container with a single spacious hall on the ground floor and smaller multi-purpose spaces on the upper floors. Through the manipulation of its siting and form, the new building unlocks the potential of the open central area and and activates the shared open space around which existing buildings are organised.
