OFFICE, in collaboration with Bollinger+Grohmann engineers, has won the competition for a pedestrian bridge between the Federal House of Representatives and the new Forum building on the other site of the Leuvensestraat, in the centre of Brussels. The bridge, which was explicitly designed as a spatial element rather then a technical solution, is shaped as a ring, suspended between the facades of the two buildings. The result is a generous ‘walkabout’ around a central void, useable as an meeting and dwelling space, and a possible escape from the hectic activities in the two buildings it connects. The project is currently under development, and expected to go in construction in spring 2018.
