A Portuguese startup created a wood and cork cube, movable, functionally flexible and sustainable, the Ecocubo. The project promises to make a difference in the eco-tourism market.

Ecocubo, an equipment with 9sqm, uses ecological and national materials in its construction, with customisable prefabricated elements, simple and fast to assemble. “The Ecocubo structure, which is easy to transport, enables to temporarily occupy privileged places, offering a more intimate contact with nature”, reiterates Filipe Brito, co-founder of the company.
António Fernandes, the architect responsible for the project, emphasizes “the contrast between the elemental form and the irregular and natural coating provided by the cork and changeable over time”, which makes Ecocubo a “project that merges with the land and at the same time its shape enhances the difference between the built and the natural”.
Designed for 2 people, its versatility enables to organize different functions, currently available in three versions of the model Ecocubo 3.0, with 9sqm.
Depending on the typology, the Ecocubo takes approximately 2 weeks to build.
Each Ecocubo is unique and customisable and can function independently of the public network, being possible to make readjustments according to the location, the usage and the desired image. The project follows the trend of sustainable architecture, offering an ecological solution with a reduced area that enhances the fundamental: the interaction with nature.
In addition to environmental concerns, the selection of materials intends to enrich the national products. “To establish identification with the project and with its origin, both nationally and internationally, the chosen material was cork, which beyond an excellent thermal and acoustic insulation is 100% natural”, reinforces António Fernandes.
Through the exploitation of a solution, both formal and functional, capable of establishing identification with the place, Ecocubo aims to constitute itself as a representative paradigm of new forms of delight of the territory with a positive impact on the environment and local communities.
