The New Aarhus School of Architecture is a dynamic and creative anchor point in the newly established urban district around Godsbanen in the center of the city. An open and inviting campus environment will create a strong relationship to city and at the same time generate a vibrant place for both student and the public. The School is organized around a flexible grid system that follows the existing industrial and functional atmosphere of the area.

The School is a small city within the city, and the unifying arcade/lodgia encloses the campus, without ever excluding it from the rest of the city. A series of individual building are placed within the perimeter of the campus, and creates a dense and collective environment. The building creates outdoor rooms in between, and establishes a strong relationship between inside and outside. The workshop extends themselves to the outside, where 1:1 workshops creates an active and lively feel.
The central building facilitates the academic staff and students. The building is organized as a society of rooms. One room is followed by the next, and this generates a strong coherence between study places and workshop areas, with a high degree of transparency and sharing. The collective is an essential part of a creative and productive student environment, and it is by sharing and having dialoue and discussions, that we gain new knowledge and develop new ideas on architecture. We learn from each other, and a New School of Architecture is obliged to generating an environment of flexible study spaces and a collective network of creativity.
