El Taller de los Sueños, is a workshop organized by HAY Festival Segovia, AHEC and IE University. They propose a transdisciplinary collaboration in which an inspirer, in this case Juan Mari and Elena Arzak, work with a designer, in this case Izaskun Chinchilla Architects.
_
The idea is to enhance the inspirer to dream about an object and to allow the designer make it in wood, pushing the boundaries for the technical capacities of the material.
From our first conversation Juan Mari and Elena expressed the need to keep enjoying and experimenting. They said that running a restaurant like Arzak, with the highest standards for quality, would only be worthy if they keep learning everyday. Looking at how they cook and research, in both the kitchen and the laboratory, we realized together the importance that tools were having in the process: they show us special wood pieces they use to serve the seafood, we talk about the importance of strainers in their process and about many more interesting little objects that were all around.
A first idea was then born. They dream of having a whole cloud of tools close to their hands when they cook. We tell them people will dream of seeing this cloud…And the first version of the design appeared… a device consisting of two windows…in the cooker´s one the tools float close to her or his hands while recording the process… in the client´s one people can leak the spoons that have been use to prepare the dishes, understand the process and check some of the ingredients.
